The Bao-Jeui Temple located on Jian-Xing Road in Beitun District was founded in 1928. In the 1970's, the statue of Maitreya Buddha in the temple, completed after a decade's worth of hard work and standing thirty meters tall, became a famous landmark and tourist attraction in Central Taiwan because of its grandeur, as there wasn't any tall building in the surrounding area at that time.
Da Hsiung Bao Hall (The Hall of Great Strength)
Inheriting the architectural style of Kenchoji Rinzai temple in Kamakur Japan, the main hall of Bao Chue Temple has a Japanese touch. The building is in the style of "drum pavilion and flying roof." Constructed with washed stone technique, it is built with Japanese style red bricks and grey tiles. Meanwhile, the ceiling of the corridors, doors, and windows are all made with Taiwanese cypress, with sophisticated craftsmanship. In the main hall, the statutes of Sakyamuni Buddha, Bhaisajaguru Buddha (Medicine Buddha), and Amitabha Buddha (Buddha of Infinite Light) are worshipped.
Maitreya Buddha
The "Chun-Hsin Master", with the aim of encouraging people to be happy and smile often just like the smiling Buddha, united the effort of local religious followers to build the Maitreya Buddha, which was completed in 1975 after a decade worth of hard work. The statute is around 30 meters in height and because of its grandeur and the fact that there wasn't any tall building in the surrounding area at that time, it has become the landmark of Taichung City, equally famous as the Lake Pavilion of Taichung Park. |
