Light up Taichung City—Taichung City Government decorated with Christmas lights in the main business area to attract visitors (2009-12-19) |

Taichung City launched a campaign to attract visitors to shop in Taichung during the Christmas holidays. The campaign includes a giant Christmas tree decoration with rotating shop windows on the Museum Boulevard, lively shows and a shopping lottery. Taichung City Government hosted the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Museum Boulevard on December 19th. According to Hsiao Chia-chi, the Vice Mayor, the Christmas shopping season campaign lit up the Museum Boulevard. Hopefully, this would invite tourists to visit Taichung City during the Christmas holidays.
The Christmas tree was a new design. It was set on a rotating base and the tree body was decorated with purple pine-tree shaped leaves covered with silver and white LED lights and other lovely decorations. The diameter of the tree base was about 6.5 meters. On the top of the tree, the star and snow flake shaped light glittered. The tree was 13.5 meters tall. The Mayor lit up the tree with other executives of the City Government, and he dressed as Santa Claus to give the audience candies. Also, the campaign organizer arranged a fireworks show to entertain the visitors.
The shows began at 3 pm. The lively shows warmed up the shopping area and attracted the eyes of the visitors. The English singing and dancing show by the community children choirs opened the ceremony and Rue-ling Dance Company presented a dance to demonstrate the beauty of the business area. Various shows included Tai Ko, church choir singing, senior citizens choir singing and the street artist shows. Between the shows, the organizer provided lucky draws for the audience. At the end of the shows, the established and popular rock bandâ€"COLOR present the songs of their debut album.
Quoted by the Department of Economy Development, the City Government provided a shopping lottery for the shoppers. The first prize of the lottery was a 42 inch screen LCD TV. The shopper and the passenger who took the free Christmas shuttle bus from December 24th to 27th would get a free lottery ticket. People who put the lottery ticket into the boxes in the shops of Museum Boulevard would have the chance to win a prize. The winner will be drawn on December 31st (Thursday).
The Christmas tree will stand on Museum Boulevard until January 3rd and will be lit up from 6 to 9 pm during the period. Taichung City Government wishes you a happy new year. |
