Basics
There are three basic categories: notarization, authentication and diplomatic authentication. Notarization is a person (a notary) witnessing a legal action or factual attestation. Authentication is the process of having a notary attest to the authenticity of a document. Diplomatic authentication is a consular official checking foreign documents and attest to their authenticity.
Notary Publics
By law, there are recognised two different types of notary public: full-time and part-time. Full-time notaries handle notarization and authentication as laid out by the Notary Law. Part-timers handle only document authentication services described in the Notary Law.
